Babette McDougal’s career as a professional communicator spans some 30 years and three major continents. She strives for innovative leadership and stellar team performance, and adding measurable strength to the bottomline.
McDougal‘s expertise includes building brand awareness via public relations, marketing communications and sponsorship development; protocol, press campaigns and special events; she’s known for out-of-the-box thinking that brings fresh ideas and new approaches. Her global work experience includes a broad range of industry sectors, including hospitality and retail, consumer and B2B, education, government, NGO and nonprofit, tourism and hospitality, and high-tech.
CARE, one of the world’s largest emergency relief and long-term development organizations, was a signature client for eight years, having successfully spearheaded their 50th anniversary celebration featuring the Honorable Javier Perez de Cuilliar (former UN Secretary General). Her many years with CARE-USA involved providing public relations and fund-raising campaigns for India, Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America and elsewhere. McDougal recently received an Award of Honorable Recognition for her pioneering work for the nation’s most prestigious multicultural news association, New America Media (www.newamericamedia.org), her client for eight years.
McDougal initiated several new and successful marketing initiatives for the Northern California community of Sausalito focusing on hospitality and tourism, business-to-business, and business-to-consumer. She was publisher for two years of Chamber Waves, a monthly b-2-b/b-2-c newspaper joint venture with Marin Independent Journal, delivered to every doorstep in Sausalito and beyond (circulation 6,000).
McDougal’s projects have included working with corporate CEOs, heads of state and important opinion leaders. Recently (May 2007) she helped coordinate the Sausalito visit by Singapore’s Prime Minister, HE Lee Hsien Loong, whose visit culminated with a private dinner at Gaylord India Restaurant (one of her hospitality clients).
She was President and Interim-CEO of Sausalito Chamber of Commerce in 2004, and was appointed by the city of Sausalito to lead their Katrina Hurricane Relief Campaign in 2005/2006. She is past-president of the Association for Women in Communications (the Northern CA chapter won eight national awards during her year as president). Other affiliations include several chambers of commerce, Women in Business, American Women in Radio & Television; she is a past director of Women in International Trade, and recently completed a term on the board of the California Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, where she served as media liaison handling national and international press on such high profile issues as the investigation of Pop Singer Michael Jackson.
Prior to launching her independent career in 1989, she enjoyed several years with the presitgious Asia Foundation, where she was responsible for events, publications, press relations and fund-raising. Before joining The Asia Foundation, she enjoyed overseas teaching experiences at Beijing’s Qinghua University and at the American College of Switzerland. Currently, she spends weekends assisting at Cavallo Point’s new Mercantile, an upscale gift shop that is part of the National Park Service’s new Lodge at the Golden Gate in partnership with Passport Resorts.
McDougal holds both a Bachelor's Degree with High Honors in Political Science and M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Having lived and traveled in over 85 countries, McDougal is conversant in French, German and Mandarin Chinese; her mother tongue is English.
